Charge Explainer
§ ABOUT · WHY

Why we built this

Bank and card statements are full of cryptic lines — SQ *, TST*, half-truncated merchant names, unfamiliar cities. This tool takes one of those lines and explains, in plain English, what it most likely is.

OUR COMMITMENTS
We never connect to your bank
There is no account linking and no login. You paste one line of text; that's the only thing we ever see.
Nothing is saved
We have no user accounts and no user database. What you paste is used to generate one answer and is not stored.
No statement uploads
We don't ask for files or full statements — just the single descriptor you're curious about.
We explain, we don't advise
This tool tells you what a charge most likely is. It never tells you to dispute, cancel, or pay anything — that's your call, and not financial advice we're qualified to give.
HOW IT STAYS ACCURATE

Every answer is grounded in a hand-curated dictionary of payment processors, a public merchant-category dataset, and what the descriptor itself contains. The explanation hedges honestly: it says “most likely” when it isn't certain, and it tells you when it simply can't identify a charge. A confidently wrong answer about your money is the one outcome we work hardest to avoid.
